Can Your Phone Book Do This?

Wow, it’s amazing what smart phones are capable of doing with the right applications plugged in.

This is likely why phone books have experienced a huge growth, even during a major (and extended) recession. According to market research firm IDC, vendors shipped 54.5 million smartphone devices in the fourth quarter of 2009, an increase of 39 percent compared to the same period in 2008

The Apple iPhone has grown from 9.1% market share in 2008 to 14.4% in 2009, shipping 8.7 million units in the fourth quarter of 2009 alone.

So let’s assume that you want to arrange a dinner and a movie for your date tonight. Do you open up your phone book and start calling restaurants in order to find one that has the food, atmosphere and an open table for a reservation? Or, do you take advantage of the latest smart phone technology.  Watch this video to find out.

It’s amazing that many of us now have phones in our pockets that are smarter than the computers once used to help mankind land on the moon. And yet, there are millions of advertisers who will spend billions of dollars advertising in 100 year old phone book technology simply because they haven’t been given a better option.

Who will reach these advertisers first?

  1. Phone books are gay. I wonder how many phone book reps / salesmen will wise up and learn about Internet marketing so the can really help people create leads and sales.

  2. Take Note! Businesses must consider where they place their advertising dollars if they want to maximize their market penetration. Obviously the phone book just doesn’t get it done any longer… unless one needs to prop open the door so customers can come in!
