What Bill Gates is Saying About Business

Overlooking your company online presence in today’s demanding markets can be a risky mistake to several small and medium size businesses.

I recently read a quote that was posted to my wall in facebook  “If your business is not on the internet, then your business will be out of business.” — Bill Gates

This statement may offend some business owners, however, sometime the truth hurts.

Did you know that more than 90% of all internet surfers never search beyond the first 3 pages on any major search engine (Google, Yahoo, Bing and others).  So, if your business doesn’t rank on the top 3 pages, how is anyone going to find you? Which means you’re losing customers to your competitor every single day.

Here are some stats that I found very interesting:

  1. According to Computer Industry Almanac, by 2010 there will be 1.8 billion users on the internet most of them will rely on the internet to find any business they may need.
  2. More than 55 % of all customers use web search before using the yellow pages.
  3. More than 60 % of all traffic goes to the 10 top search engine placement results.
  4. More than 80% of all online traffic comes from the search engines.
  5. More than 90% of all internet surfers never search beyond the first 3 pages on any major search engine (Google, Yahoo, Bing and others).
  6. Social media networking has become one of the most popular activities online, and back in March 2010,  Facebook made headlines when it surpassed Google for most page views in a week.

But really who has the time as a business owner to keep up with the internet. Many SMB find it challenging to keep up with the daily routine along with managing the business, keeping up with vendors, assisting customers along with overseeing employees. Then you toss in life in general, family and friends. Who can keep up with it all?

There is a solution, for less than what it would cost to hire a part time minimum wage employee without the cost of training, taxes and let’s not forget insurance. You could hire a team of expert internet gurus (such as BizNdex) that are continually doing research and testing to find out what is now working and what is no longer effective in the internet world. As you know the World Wide Web is always changing and evolving.

To be able to compete in today’s markets, small and medium sized businesses need an online presence much more than big businesses. Big businesses have huge marketing budgets and can afford to market in many other off line media. An efficient internet marketing strategy will ensures that the maximum amount of traffic will be directed to your business by a mixture of search engines which will in return give you that first page presence that your company wants and needs.
