About a year ago I began building my first website for Shew’s Top Quality Roofing in Tulsa. I am their General Manager and knew an Internet presence was needed. I had never built a site before so I started out using Yahoo tools and templates. I was pleased with the progress to a point but quickly learned that Yahoo could not provide the tools I needed to take the site where I wanted it to be.

We hired “that jon jackson” to convert the site to Word Press. After the conversion, Jon helped answer my questions but let me do my own thing to expand the site. Once it was built and published, I continued to tweak and add to the site. But very few visitors came to the site.

We put up URL banners on our building and decals on our trucks. We added the site to our other advertisements as well. The number of visitors began to grow slowly. After several weeks, we were getting about 60 to 75 visitors per week. Of course, I wanted more. I purchased Google Adwords and tried the pay per click thing. I spent our budget, but did not see an increase in visitors nor folks requesting Free Estimates or Hail Damage Inspections. The weekly unique visitors climbed to around 85 per week.

I was contacted by a company, Netbiz, that sold me 2 specific words “Roofing” and “Guttering” which IF the person was looking and typed exactly “Roofing” or “Guttering” we were listed on the first page of Google. That part worked, however, if the search was for roof, roofing contractor, gutters, etc — no deal. For a period of 5 months, we spent almost $400 per month for those two words. The number of visitors did not rise, but, the number of requests for a Free Estimate or Inspection started to trickle in to the tune of about 2 per month.
