Social Networking = Social Media?

Social Networking = Social Media?

I recently read an article in Forbes by Adrienne Graham about Social Media and Social Networking and it hit a home run.

You mention Social Media and Social Networking and most people are under the impression that they are one in the same. Unfortunately, this is untrue.

Graham puts it best;

“Social media and social networking are not the same. Social media are the tools and social networking is what you do in the communities. You can use one to enhance the other, but they are not the same. It’s common sense. Any expert who doesn’t define that for you from the beginning isn’t an expert.”

It is kinda like designing a business card. Now that you have it, what will you do with it?

  1. Hi Tracey.

    Thanks for the write up. I agree with the business card analogy. There is so much wrong information out there. It drives me crazy to see people charging clients to get on those three sites promising them increased revenue and not giving them the total social media picture.
